Anne Heche car crash scene described as ‘horrific’: ‘Nothing could have prepared me’

“Despite previous reports that Heche was stable, shortly after the accident, Anne Heche became unconscious, slipping into a coma and is in critical condition,” the statement read.
“She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.”
A representative told Deadline that the situation was grave.
“At this time, Anne is in extreme critical condition,” the outlet reported.
“She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”
Heche was involved in the accident when her car crashed into a house in Mar Vista, a suburb of Los Angeles.
A “heavy fire” then broke out which took 60 firefighters an hour to put out.
Police told NBC affiliate KNBC that Heche’s Mini Cooper had been speeding down the residential street before appearing to hit a curb and launching more than nine metres into the home.
Investigators obtained a warrant to draw Heche’s blood to determine whether she was intoxicated at the time of the crash, police said.
If it is determined that Heche was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, she could face misdemeanour DUI and hit-and-run charges.
The woman who lived at the home, Lynne Mishele, was not injured because she was in the backyard with her dogs at the time of the crash.
Michele rang Jennifer Durand, the home’s owner, to explain what had happened.
“Lynne called me and asked me if I was sitting down, and then told me a car had crashed through the home and it was on fire,” Durand told People.
She described the crash scene as horrific, adding “nothing could have prepared me.”
“When I arrived, we hugged and cried a lot,” she recalled.
“In that moment, I was just so relieved and grateful that she and her animals had survived this.
“Nothing could have prepared me for what the house looked like.
“There are a lot of memories there, and it is just gone.”
According to a neighbour, Lynne Bernstein, Heche’s car went “almost all the way through” the small residential home.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the house was now structurally damaged and badly fire-affected.
Photographs of the scene show Heche’s blue Mini Cooper significantly burned and the front of the home destroyed.
Heche was driving alone, officials said
Witnesses told TMZ that Heche first crashed into the garage of an apartment complex before reversing and driving off, then crashing into the Mar Vista home nearby.
Los Angeles authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Heche is the former partner of US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The pair began dating in 1997 before separating in 2000.
Heche is best known for films including Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids and the 1998 Psycho remake.
